About the speaker
Dr Felix Thoemmes is an Associate Professor at Cornell University, where he teaches and researches statistical methods for social scientists. Before he came to Cornell, he was a Professor at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, in the Center for Educational Science and Psychology, and an Assistant Professor in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University. Mediation analysis is commonly employed as means to uncover mechanisms. However, the causal assumptions of this analysis are often not spelled out. The speaker will present some common problems with mediation analysis, and how a formal derivation of causal quantities can improve the use of mediation analysis.
